Farm Fresh Potatoes, Virginia Grown
Welcome to Virginia Grown – A Celebration of Local Harvest & Community Giving!
At Bushwick Potato Commission, we take pride in supporting local farmers, fresh produce, and our community. Each year, our Virginia Grown promotion highlights the dedication of Virginia’s potato farmers, who have spent generations perfecting the quality and flavor of their crops. From Whites to Reds and Yellows, every potato is grown with care and tradition, bringing farm-fresh goodness to your stores and table.
But Virginia Grown is about more than just great potatoes—it’s about giving back. A portion of the proceeds from this promotion benefits the Children’s Hospital of The King’s Daughters in Norfolk, VA. When you choose Virginia Grown potatoes at Virginia Walmart stores, you aren’t just supporting local farmers, you’re helping make a difference in the lives of young patients across Virginia.

Meet Your Potato Farmers!
Dublin Farms, a fifth-generation potato farm, is located on the north side of Mosquito Creek in Accomack County. The name Dublin comes from the original 300-acre tract of land that was separated off a land grant from the King of England, which was bought by the Hickman family in 1889. The farm has been in the Hickman family ever since, and potatoes have been grown on some portion of that farm dating back to 1872. Brothers Phil and David Hickman grew their first 200-acre potato crop in 1975. White potatoes were the only potatoes grown until 1992, when they began growing reds, and then in ’96, they grew their first yellow potatoes. Over time, they developed a reputation for having unparalleled quality and have built the Dublin Farms brand into one sought after by buyers up and down the East Coast.
Today, Phil and David’s sons, Phillip, Matthew, and Mark, grow 500 acres of red, white, and yellow potatoes with their quality still being what sets them apart from other farms.
